When a Chicagoan craves an authentic Chicago Dog and we can't get back to the Windy City we go to Frank's a little taste of home. The owner is originally from Chicago and knows how to make a great dog! They also have an authentic Maxwell Street Polish too!

The ONLY place in southeast Michigan to get an authentic taste of Chicago. Sure you can get a Detroit Coney here too, but what's the point? Tamales, Polish, and Italian beef round out the menu in true Chicago fashion.

I went to Chicago at the end of June in 2009 on a business trip. First time to this beautiful city and believe me, it will not be the last. Just a glimpse of this gorgeous place and it really reminds you of what our wonderful country was made of and founded on, I was very proud of the stunning artwork and scenery. It made me proud to be an American all over again, the same way I feel when I visit Philadelphia. Being in such a huge city and so many wonderful places to enjoy, my trip only permitted one nights stay and back to my office the next day or I would have ventured to try more of what Chicago offered. My choice was a GREAT pick. Not only was the service superb but the food was "out of this world". WOW, would be a great word to describe the all around experience I had at hackneys. I was lucky enough to have to wait at the bar for my table and experience the kindness and skills of a very capable bar tending staff. (Not too long though :) ). I can't say enough - fresh greans - cheeses where right on the money with the entree. Very pleased, I wish I could have experienced more and hope to go back again next year, ill plan on a longer stay if it means I can get back to Hackneys again. :)

in 1965 i was at the junction of rush st and state about a block south of division and stopped in a franksville. at that time they gave me the hot dg in a bun and had about 4 rows with maybe 6 trays to a row of everything a person could put on a hot dog. never went back and when i wanted to try them a few years later they were gone. sure think that idea could make a go as long as they use vienna brand chicago hot dogs

I live in the Pacific Northwest and I gotta say I am also a transplant from Chicago,I have searched high and low for a great Chicago style dog and finally found a place in Portland Oregon. Waynes Chicago Red Hots. What a relief. It it built like the familiar hot dog restaurants of Chicago, drug thru the garden and Vienna Beef. Check out there web site Waynes chicago red hots .com. If you are ever up in La Crosse try a place called Beef & Etc. (Or simply 'The Beef' to the locals). It is near the UW-L Campus. Using your scale (and my level of intoxication), I would give them a 3 or 4. They use a Vienna Beef dog, but it goes down hill from there. The relish is army issued olive-drab green. The peppers are jalepenos. Most disturbing, I think they use regular hot dog buns that they then sprinkle with poppy seeds. They are however the only game in town for anything close to a Chi-dog. They also have a pretty good Italian Beef sandwich. The decor is nothing more than posters of anything Chicago.

it's not in the chicagoland area, it's in champaign, but if you ever come down here to come to a u of i game or just going down south down 57 and need to stop and get a dawg, come to big mouth's on green street. the dawg i had was pretty much perfect. there were a couple of things. the relish which was neon green was lightly put on and the onions i believe were caramilized a bit, and it wasn't a jumbo dog, just a reg size dog. but it still tasted perfectly!!! the sport pepers were the perfect heat. the bun was perfect, and they knew what they were doing. so i invite you to try and review big mouths. a couple other things, a special comes with two dogs fries(hand cut and perfect, and a drink for about 6.00 and if you are starved, try a doubledog!!!)

I enjoyed your website and thought I'd pass on a suggested classic red hot stand for a future review. I'm living in rural Tennessee now as an owner/operator of a small family blueberry farm, but I can assure you that I spent 25 formative years growing up in the city on the west side of Chicago. An example of the "Real Deal" is Jimmy's Red Hots located at the corner of Grand Avenue and Pulaski Road in Chicago. Vienna dogs, steamed buns, mustard, onions, relish and sport peppers wrapped together with fresh cut french fries. They will undoubtedly attack you if you even refer to ketchup in the building. Our family ate those dogs beginning in the early 50s and the stand is still in business. I can no longer vouch for the neighborhood, so keep one guy in the car with the engine running just in case, but Jimmy's is a great dog stand. Keep up the good work.

Hey guys - great to find your site!! I was born in Chicago a long time ago...moved away before I could truly appreciate the culinary greatness of Chi-town...well, I ended up in Texas...got the craving for a Chicago Dog today... Just had THE BEST hot dog of my life...well 2 of them actually! lol Ordered two Jumbo Chicago Dogs with The Works. It was a good thing I was sitting down....wow...."more than a mouthful" comes to mind...absolutely, positively EXCELLENT...the sport peppers were a really nice kick, the onions, mustard, relish, tomato, celery salt, the dog and the poppy seed bun blended nicely....wow....the chips (Jay's, from Chicago as well) are awesome too.
